Fight Better. Love More. Compassionate Communication for Couples Daylong.

Relationship conflict sucks. Those moments where our heels are dug in, our partner has seemingly transformed into “the villain,” and we feel like we have to defend our position at all costs. We get angry and lash out, or we put up 10-foot walls and shut down, but secretly we long to be understood, to be forgiven, and to love and be loved. Deep down, we know that the relationship is worth more than being right, but we just don’t know how to get there.

Free Teleclass: The Art of Falling (and Staying) in Love - An NVC Approach

In love.

So many associations we have with that phrase.  Love is something we either have or we don’t, we’re either in it, or we’re not.  Like the good/bad, right/wrong, dualistic paradigm that divides our minds and our world in so many ways, “in love” has, for so many of us, been on the other side of a vast river of aloneness that seemingly flows between us and the outside world.

Yet what if we knew that love lives right here, starting within?  Alongside our life-withered skin, outside our single or partnered bodies, and flowing deeply through our bones and beating hearts alike?  What if being in love were a way of life, one that was utterly independent of our relationship status?

Free Teleclass for Women - Reclaiming Our Love in a Violent World

Violence happens on all levels: in the way we relate to our own humanity, innocence, and longings; in the way we relate to our beloveds when we are stressed, worn out, scared, or confused; and in the way we relate to and disconnect from our larger human family when we are simply born into and conditioned within a systemically divided world.

Our patterns and habits of communication as well as thought betray our most deep-seeded desires for connection with, respect for, and honoring of all life, beginning within.

How can we, as women, begin to consciously undo the patters of violence toward self, other, community, and world?  How can we come home to our own hearts, our own desires for interconnectedness and radical care not just for ourselves (the essential foundation), but also for this  chaotic, divided, and often crumbling world we live in, so that we can reweave our inherent tapestry with all of life?

Join us Monday, August 17th at 5pm Pacific time for an exploration of ways we can support ourselves and link hands and hearts in this potent inquiry.

Free Call: What's Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Got to Do with Racial Justice?

Free Call this Friday, 5-6pm Pacific

Freddie Gray.  Eric Garner.  Michael Brown.  With tragedy after tragedy unfolding in the news, many of us arestunned and heartbroken, at a loss to find a way forward toward creating a world where, truly, everyone's needs matter.

What does Nonviolent Communication (NVC) have to contribute to the struggle for racial justice?

What light can it shed upon how cultural conditioning keeps us stuck, reinforcing dynamics of oppression, even as we act or speak out against it? And how can NVC inform the approach of well-meaning white people who unintentionally offend in their desire to act as allies against racism?

Join NVC trainers Edmundo Norte and Marina Smerling for this free, one-hour dialogue Friday May 8th, from 5-6pm Pacific, to support people of color and white folks alike in finding an empathy-based approach to racial healing and justice in these turbulent times.

REGISTER HERE FOR THIS FREE CALL

Edmundo Norte serves as the Dean of Intercultural and International Studies at De Anza College and is a national consultant on issues of diversity, equity, and transformative leadership, conducting workshops on "A Human Development Approach to Transforming Power, Perceptions, and Society," an empathy-focused way of engaging in anti-racist, social justice work.

Marina Smerling is a collaborative trainer with Bay Area Nonviolent Communication and a former attorney who brings a long-standing interest in the interplay between shame, NVC, and white allyship to the conversation and movment for racial justice. Along with Edmundo, she is a member of the training team of the Nonviolent Leadership for Social Justice Retreat.

This free call is offered by the members of the training team of the annual Nonviolent Leadership for Social Justice Retreat. Join us July 19-26 for even more in-depth exploration of how we are impacted by dynamics of oppression and how we can work towards social justice for all.

Becoming Our Own Valentines -- A Free Valentines' Day Teleclass

[Art by the fabulous Rita Loyd]

Imagine looking in the mirror and asking, “Will you be mine?”  Today and everyday.

What would it look like to be our own valentines, to claim ourselves wholly and shamelessly, even when we’ve “messed up,” even when we’re despairing, even when we’re frustrated, feeling hurt, alone, and deeply humbled by this wild and woolly path called being human?  This free teleclass is for all would be self-lovers, single, married, partnered, or not, including those who are “in an open relationship” with the universe.  Learn how NVC can support you in saying “yes” to yourself, “yes” to your life, and support all of your relationships in the process.

No more waiting.  For relationship, for "the one," or, if we're in relationship, for all conflict to cease and for the day that we have sailed off to hunky-dory land.

We get to claim ourselves now.  We get to choose love now.  Warts and foibles and all.  Dilemmas and doubts a-stirrin'.  Before perfection is reached.  Before we've obtained that ever-elusive gold star of approval.

Committing to self-love, and doing it now.  Join me for this Nonviolent Communication (NVC) inspired guide to choosing love beyond reason, committing to ourselves even when we think we're undeserving, and becoming the truest, most beautiful, and most reliable valentine of all -- our own -- 365 days a year.

Free Teleclass: Four Steps to Shameless Loving, Beginning Within

Shameless loving starts within.  It starts with us.  It starts with bringing back to the table all the parts of ourselves we’ve lost, buried, or shamed into the closet, and saying to them, “Welcome, come on out, I see you, and value the gift you hold.”  When we embrace ourselves wholeheartedly, loving others becomes effortless, our vibrant elixir of life naturally overflowing, wanting to be given.

This is a free teleclass, open to all.

Compassionate Truth-Telling: Communication at the Intersection of Love and Power

We need to tell the truth -- for our own sanity, our own aliveness, our sense of being here on this planet fully.

So often, we hold back, out of fear of hurting another, or fear of being rejected and cast out of the tribe.

How do we tell our truth with heart? How do we speak from a deep knowing that our truth is a gift, as well as a felt sense that our care for another is actually care for ourselves?
